Description of the research topic:

The global network of human transportation has been playing a paramount role in the spatial spread of infectious diseases. The high connectedness of distant territories by air travel makes it possible for a disease to rapidly invade geographically far regions. Mathematically describing the spread of infectious diseases on this network has critical importance. As several infectious diseases are known to be transmissible during flights, we need to incorporate this factor into our models. This leads to a new type of large time delay systems. The mathematical analysis of such systems is rather challenging and requires advanced mathematical tools such as functional differential equations, stability, asymptotically autonomous systems, spectral analysis of operator semigroups, bifurcations.
