Location of studies (in Hungarian): LINK Network Science Research Group (www.linkgroup.hu) at the Department of Medical Chemistry of the Semmelweis University Abbreviation of location of studies: SE
Description of the research topic:
Our multi-disciplinary group was established in 2004, and has cooperation with many leading unviersities/research institutions of the world. We analyze protein structure, protein-protein interaction and signaling networks, but also compare them to social networks and engineering networks. Our analysis includes
• modularization, module cores (http://www.modules.linkgroup.hu), coarse-graining (http://linkgroup.hu/networkrepresentation.php) hierarchy and their changes in adaptation;
• perturbation spread (http://www.turbine.hu) and cooperation (http://www.networgame.linkgroup.hu), as well as
• changes of plasticity and rigidity of complex systems.
We use the above methods to assess the adaptive responses of complex networks, their changes in learning, memory formation, stress, health, disease and during the aging process. We also apply these methods to search for network attractors, to find interventions to shift the complex system from one attractor to another and to use this e.g. in drug design (http://www.dzzom.com). The PhD student will be included to these research areas and will select an apporpriate subtopics fitting to her/his background, abilities and interest.
Required language skills: English Further requirements: Basic or advanced computer programming skills are highly advantageous. However, the user-level handling of network analysis programs available at http://www.linkgroup.hu is also sufficient.
