Description of the research topic:

Iron is an essential cofactor in all organisms. In plants, 80% of it can be found in the chloroplasts. Thus, the iron uptake of chloroplasts is of key importance for the iron homeostasis of plants.
In this program the function of transport systems only partly studied and understood so far will be investigated in chloroplasts in order to establish new biofortification strategies. The effect of several iron complexes made of natural compounds on Fe accumulation, the expression of genes responsible for Fe accumulation in the shoot and the possibility of increasing Fe accumulation by introducing Fe transport related genes in oilseed rape will be studied.
