Description of the research topic:

Besides their significant potential in material science and catalytic chemistry, heterocyclic ferrocene derivatives with different skeletons are important representatives of the small molecules of interest in terms of their biological activities. In the last decades the ferrocene derivatives having different biologically activies including antiproliferative effect are the subject of intensive research. In a number of cases it was demonstrated that the replacement of an aryl/heteroaryl substituent for a ferrocene-containing residue significanty increases the biological activity of a simple purely organic therapeutic agent. On the other hand, the incorporation of a substituted- or fused ferrocene moiety allows the synthesis of both enantiomers of molecules with the elements of planar- and central chirality. In this context we envisage the synthesis and systematic structural analysis of the enantiomers of such drug candidates which - on the basis of their molecular skeleton - are expected to display promising effects in the comparative in vitro tests conducted in the frame of an ongoing cooperation.
