Description of the research topic:

Alternative silvicultural methods (conservation oriented management, selection systems, Pro Silva management) result in more heterogeneous forest structure than classic clear-cut or shelterwood forest management methods. These alternative techniques provide more favourable conditions for several forest dwelling organisms, like saproxylic insects and fungi; hole-nesting birds; epiphytic bryophytes; forest woody species, shrub species and forest herbs. The main target of the research is to test these hypotheses, to identify the most influential environmental variables on the diversity of the selected organisms, and to provide practical silvicultural recommendations that ensure the enhancement of forest structure and the survival of the habitat of several forest-dwelling organisms.

Required language skills: English (fluent)
