Description of the research topic:

Typically, multiple sound sources are active in our everyday environment. The Auditory Scene Analysis theory seeks to explain how the human auditory system separates the contributions of different sources within the composite acoustic input that reaches the ears. However, ASA does not specify the memory structures needed for the operation of the processes segregating the signals of different sound sources. The Ph.D. research will focus on the memory representations underlying ASA by conducting perceptual studies with behavioral and event related brain potential methods and, depending on the background and orientation of the student, by developing and assessing computational models.
