Description of the research topic:

Electrodermal activity is a well-known psychophysiological indicator of sympathetic arousal, which can be observed in relation to certain emotional and cognitive states. Individuals vary in both level and variability of electrodermal activity, and based on previous research these are trait-like characteristics. Previous results portray electrodermal lability in relation with schizophrenia, anxiety disorders and suicide, whereas electrodermal hyporesponsivity (flat waves) describe psychopaths.
We collected electrodermal activity recordings in various situations from several hundred healthy young volunteers, and their DNA samples with non-invasive methods. Further research aims to justify the stability of electrodermal profiles, moreover, we aim to link these individual differences to genetic markers. The investigation of inherited differences of electrodermal responses to certain situations, especially motivation is also planned. (It is advised to consult the supervisor before applying.)
