Description of the research topic:

Behavioural addictions (internet addiction, hypersexuality, work addiction, social networking addiction, online gaming addiction, exercise addiction, gambling) are disorders of the behaviour that show numerous similarities with each other as well as with chemical addictions regarding the characteristics of the symptoms (compulsion, circularity, negative consequences). Whereas these disorders do not form a homogenous group concerning the diagnostic system or in other aspects either, the common nature of these behaviours – besides the similarities of symptoms – is also supported by various genetic, neurobiological and psychological studies. The objective of this topic is the scientific contribution to this branch of research, thus the promotion of the classification of these disorders and the establishment of the spectrum approach of behavioural addictions along personality dimensions.
