Description of the research topic:
Emancipation of women during the communist system was paradoxical: while they were not not only encouraged but it was made necessary for women to participate in the work force, the gender role expectations remained traditional and women typically occupied worst paid low status jobs in society and political leadership remained male dominated during the whole period. After the system change attitudes became even more traditional than before, women’s participation in the work force has dropped and political representation of women has been extremly low not only compared to other democracies but at global level. Doctoral thesis could focus on those social psychological mechanism conrtibuting to the gender gap in political and economical leadership positions, sexism and gender stereotypes as well as gender egalitarian attitudes and the perception of gender non-conformity and feminism.
