Description of the research topic:

The assumption that humans attribute background knowledge to a partner when engaging in social interactions is an empirically unexplored assumption. It is possible that the attribution of this knowledge base can be more refined if the perceiver has access to cues that allow her to infer the similarities and differences in a shared representational space. The project offered for PhD studies is plan to systematically study whether obvious indications of shared vs. non-shared background knowledge (‘same’ or ‘other’ in social category formation) result in a difference in how we monitor the social partner’s mental states.
