Description of the research topic:

Optimality Theory (Prince and Smolensky 1993; Smolensky and Legendre 2006) has not only been the leading paradigm in phonology for two decades, but has also been applied to syntax, semantics and pragmatics, as well as to topics beyond linguistics, while it also maintains strong connections to computational cognitive science. The doctoral student will choose a linguistic phenomenon in Hebrew (or another „Jewish language”), develop a standard Optimality Theoretical account thereof, and subsequently add diachronic and social-cultural dimensions to it.

Required language skills: english
Recommended language skills (in Hungarian): hebrew or any jewish language
