Description of the research topic:

High intensity laser systems generally suffer from pedestals and noise in the temporal vicinity of the main pulse. Nonlinear Fourier-filtering and plasma mirror techniques are introduced and applied for temporal contrast improvement of high brightness KrF excimer systems in the past years. The achievable contrast improvement with nonlinear Fourier-filtering is determined by the quality of imaging involved in the filtering process. The main goal of this research is to improve the current experimental arrangement for better contrast improvement and for practical integration in to advanced UV amplification laser systems both for nonlinear Fourier-filtering and for plasma mirrors.
