THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Institute: Budapest University of Technology and Economics
mechanical engineering
Géza Pattantyús-Ábrahám Doctoral School of Mechanical Engineering

Thesis supervisor: Marianna Halász
co-supervisor: László Mihály Vas
Location of studies (in Hungarian): Department of Polymer Engineering
Abbreviation of location of studies: PT

Description of the research topic:

a.) Antecedents: The conventional fields of study at the Department of Polymer Engineering are elementary fibers and fibrous structures. The newest trend based on these is the material science of fiber reinforced polymer composites. There is a cooperation with the colleagues of the Department of Mechatr., Optics and Engineering Informatics since the 1980s in the field of structural strength examination and modelling of fibrous structures and the development of related computer systems.
b.) Aim of research: Investigation and modelling of the complex mechanical behaviour of fibrous structures and their composites
c.) Tasks, main items, necessary time:
• Development of new measurement methods and improvement of old ones. Design and building of new measuring equipment. Geometrical and mechanical examination, analysis of results.
• Development and improvement of the mechanical models and the simulation software.
• Comparison of measurement and simulation results, correction of models.
• Simulation based determination of material parameters.
d.) Required equipment: The basic examination and data processing infrastructure is available at the Department of Polymer Engineering.
e.) Expected scientific results: New examination methods and devices using 3D image analysis. Improved material models and computer simulation programs for the description of the deformation and failure behavior of fibrous structures and their composites.
