Generation of high-order harmonics in bulk materials

THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Location of studies (in Hungarian): ELI-ALPS + SZTE
Abbreviation of location of studies: ELI

Description of the research topic:

The PhD work will focus on the analysis of the properties of the generation
of high-order harmonics in bulk materials. Several recent experiments have
evidenced the similarities between HHG in materials and in gases, offering the
possibility to extend to condensed phase systems the attosecond spectroscopic techniques already applied in atoms and molecules. The work will be initially focused on the understanding and modelling of the properties of the high-order harmonics generated in crystals by infrared fields. The similarities between HHG in crystals and gases will be investigated; in particular the role of the carrier-envelope-phase on the generation process will be studied. This work will be followed by experimental investigations, once the Mid-IR laser system foreseen at ELI-ALPS will become available.
